To Have A Grey Cat
Some breeds have grey cat in them, while other breeds of cats also have grey colored cats, but they also have other colors and patterns as well. A lot of people prefer a particular color cat and there are a few cat breeds that have blue grey cat or else they do not belong to that particular breed. These grey cat breeds have a unique personality, which is a direct result of the color of their coat.
Veterinarians, cat fancier’s organizations, and cat owners believe that the color of the cats coat and their personality are related and this has been proven after careful study of feline genetics.
There are a number of grey cat breeds. Some of the most common grey cat breeds are Maine Coon, Exotic, American short hair, Sphynx, Cornish Rex and Norwegian Forest cats. There are some cat breeds that are accepted by the cat registries only if they are born with grey colored coat. They only recognize these cats when they have grey colored coat. Some of these grey cat breeds are Korat cats, the Chartreux cat, Nebelung cat, and the Russian Blue. Let us understand each cat breed in detail.

The Nebelung cat looks very similar to the Russian Blue, but with small differences. The color of this cat is blue grey. The Nebelung cats coat is semi-long and soft to touch. They have a silky hair with a dense undercoat. This grey cats coat is covered by silver tipped guard hair that gives this cat a glow. The Nebelung cat breed was born in the early 1980s when a black domestic shorthair and a Russian blue crossbred and produced grey kittens and one of which had long hairs. These were supposed to be the first Nebelung cats. Other than the fur length the Nebelung and Russian blue are identical.
Nebelung is a soft spoken and mild tempered cat. They are affectionate, playful and will not bother you like other cats. They are a bit shy with strangers and will avoid new people.

Korat is the purest and natural grey cat breeds. Their original descendents are not known, but the standards for this cat breed are strict. Ideally for a Korat to be accepted by the cat registries this cat has to have blue-silver or grey color coat, which should be free of any markings. The hair at the root should be light blue that darkens along the shaft turning into a grey blue color with a silver tip. The silver tip gives this cat an overall glow. This grey colored coat cat has a striking green eyes and a head that is heart shaped. The kittens of this cat breed are born with blue eyes, which changes to amber and eventually turn green after two to four years. It takes time for these cats to mature and is known as ugly ducklings when they are small. This is a very social cat and enjoys company of people. They are attention seekers and will climb on to your lap to show affection. These cats will show their unhappiness. These breed of cats generally get along well with other pets, but will get jealous if you
shower more affection to others.

The other famous grey cat is the French feline named Chartreux. These cats are usually large in size and take some time to mature. They are heavy cats with a bluish grey coat. Their eyes are orange or gold with a broad head. The Chartreux has been recognized by the CFA as a rare pure bred cat. These cats are endearing and mild-mannered and love to play a game of fetch like dogs. The Chartreux does not require constant grooming. An occasional brushing is enough to remove loose hairs due to their double coat. These cat breeds are born with no serious health issues and are generally healthy. They are a nice family cat who can gel well with children and also demand less attention from you.

The Russian blue is another cat breed with a grey blue coat and belongs to the grey cat breeds. As the name suggests these cats originate from Russia specially the Northern part of Russia. The Russian blues appear very large due to their double coat. It has a long graceful neck; which is hidden under the thick fur and high shoulder blades. Their coat shines under light, which was one of the reasons why these cats were hunted. Their blue grey coat has matching and bright green eyes that garner a lot of attention. They have a gentle temperament and can be easily trained. These cats love to chase toys and enjoy playing a game of fetch for a long time. This breed of cat does not like unpredictable situations and does not like any changes. Since they are naturally occurring they do not suffer from health problems.
All the above grey cats are of different breeds, but what is common in them is their personality, which is friendly and affectionate. This loving personality traits and their unique coat color makes these cats very popular and likable.
